Identity Through a Photograph

The Woodlands Arts Council, 5th Annual High School Photography Contest

Deadline: February 2nd, 2018
Digital Submission should be sent to and be a minimum of 1800 pixels x 1200 pixels at 300 dpi

Contest Overview
The theme is “Identity.” By examining representations of the self, students are asked to create work specific to their own personal experiences and inner reflections. As a project focusing on the self, the challenge is to confront their position as both maker and subject.

Students are asked to think critically and conceptually about their identity possibly portraying themselves in abstract terms if they so choose. There are no conceptual or contextual requirements in the photographs, as each student is bound by their own subjective experiences of identity.

Your submission should be submitted digitally in a JPEG format and sent to The photo should be minimum of 4x6, and based on your artistic preference your image can be presented in either color or black and white. Once you have completed your work, as the artist you will need to submit a statement declaring either a definition or a short paragraph on what your piece means to you.

It is mandatory for each student whom is participating in this year’s competition to submit an online application prior to the March 2nd submissions. We are asking students to complete their online application by February 28, 2018 and submit their works to us in person March 2, 2018. If you fail to do the online application, your work will not be considered in this years Scholarship opportunity. The winners from each category will be featured in the Student Art Scholarship booth at this year’s 2018 Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival.
